KHII RULES!!! This game will go down in history.
You start the game with a very lengthy tutorial featuring a new character named Roxas. It’s a very slow start, but soon speeds up (maybe a little too much). Soon Sora awakens, as well as his friends Donald and Goofy. Together you must stop the evil Organization XIII (a new batch of villains from Chain of Memories), and find your friends King Mickey and Riku. I cannot reveal a lot of the story to you, because there are so many twists and surprises.
Reuniting with Disney and Final Fantasy characters is just as much fun now as it was in the first game, and the new worlds are fun. But all the worlds are a lot smaller now, which leads to locking worlds way too fast. Its a good thing that you can return to worlds to complete more quests (My favorite world was Hollow Bastion, while my least favorite was Land of Dragons).
The frantic gameplay has returned, but a lot faster now. It’s also more fun, which makes leveling up characters a blast. And this time, extra characters like Auron, Tron and Jack Skelington are actually fun to use. This is due to the new Reaction commands, which are a blast to pull off. And now you can pull off God of War-style moves thanks to the triangle button, which was never used in the first game. The minigames are also a lot more fun this time around.
The musical score is still solid in KHII, but nowhere near as good or memorable as the originals. A lot of the great voice work has returned, with Haley Joel Osment voicing a more mature sounding Sora. Mandy Moore and Billy Zane sadly do not return, but instead we get great work from Christopher Lee and Jesse McCartney.
A truthful sequel is hard to find nowadays. KHII more than lives up to the original, but doesn’t surpass it. It’s a great game and I hope to see a third installment in the near future.
