You would think a game with Disney would be lame. This is the lone exception.
Then I heard that it was pretty good so I bought it.
It is a crime not to own this game. It has so many things going for it. A great storyline (which only gets better as the story progresses), interesting characters, and most importantly, solid gameplay.
Let me start by explaining the story. The main protagonist is Sora, who lives on an island with Riku, Kairi, and a few other characters you Final Fantasy fans might recognize. To put it in simple terms, Sora "likes" Kairi. You know, love interest. Anyway, they're planning to search the world on a wooden raft (where are these kids' parents???), until there is a bad storm one night. Sora goes out to investigate, and things take a turn as some keyblade magically appears in his hands, and he fights a giant shadow that he just happens to have seen in his dreams.
Then there is Donald, Goofy, and all them. Well, there is another planet where Mickey Mouse is king, Goofy is the head of the army (I may be a bit off, since it's been a while since I've played this game), and Donald is the head magician. Mickey goes missing, leaving a letter saying he's looking for a "keyblade" (hmmm... some possible connection with Sora?), and he wants Goofy and Donald to go out and look as well.
There is a lot more to the story, but I don't want to give too much away.
Anyway, now for the gameplay. It is rock solid. The camera is never an issue, as you simply control it with your right analog stick. It is pretty much a button masher until you start getting magic and summons, then it becomes more strategic. (Final Fantasy fans might recognize the magic...)
The bosses are almost more towards the platforming end than the RPG end of the spectrum. You have to know when to attack, what part to attack, and one particular boss, where the boss even is! The bosses are really fun, and at the end of the game you get a chain of different forms of the main boss. Essentially half the last level is the final boss.
The enemies are varied as well. Almost all are heartless, but there are MANY different forms or heartless, some are weaker to certain types of magic, some are weaker to physical attacks, it's up to you to learn each heartless' weakness.
The environments are not only different, but familiar to almost all. Except for the tutorial, first level and the last two, all of the levels are from Disney. They have Tarzan, Aladdin, Hercules, even The Little Mermaid! Another really cool feature about this game is that most of the levels has guest partners that you can use to replace either Donald or Goofy. You can fight with your favorite Disney characters at your side!
Basically, this is the game I had the most fun with on my PlayStation 2. It is an absolute must have, as is the sequel, so much so that I'm going to miss Kingdom Hearts 3 when it probably comes out on the PS3, which I don't have.
