I can't wait for the sequel
Combat and leveling is fast and fun, but you are likely to hit max level before you finish the game. I always enjoy that second playthrough where you use every trick you can think of to hit max level or at least get a bit higher than your first time through. Combat is fun and well mixed but a bit too easy, I recommend upping the difficulty once you get the core mechanics down. Boss fights seem cool at first but are a bit of a grind, bosses aren't hard so much as they have really big life bars. I really enjoy the stealth kill animations and the fateshifting ability, which add a nice bit of variation in the game.
Story and questwise the game is very average and considering the talent involved, it should have been the best part. Conversations are decently voiced but a tad long and require a few seconds to load every time you start one. It is barely noticeable at first but after 30-40 hours seems to really drag you our of the world. Loading the game to your hard drive helps this a bit.
I really enjoy the character and world design. They have a fun cartoon quality. The game should have taken advantage of the style more by making things a bit lighter storywise. Although there are funny bits overall the game takes itself fairly seriously.
Many people are comparing this game with Skyrim which I think is unfair to both games. Other than being fantasy based this game is nothing like Skyrim, it is much more like Borderlands. Unfortunately what made Borderlands an amazing game is lacking here. A really solid humor based storyline and multiplayer. The whole time I was playing this game all I could think is how I would never stop playing it if it had multiplayer. I really prefer split screen so I can play with friends in my house, but online would have really helped as well. Obviously it would not have worked with the story so some tweaking would have been necessary.
With some more humor and multiplayer story mode this game would have rated an 8.5 or 9 for me. As it is I can't wait for a sequel to see what they have learned and how they improve such a solid first game.
