Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is the N64 installment to Kirby's ongoing adventures. This time he has to recover shards of a magical crystal that protected a planet inhabited by fairies that has been shattered in an attempt to steal it by a mysterious evil being.

The first thing you will notice about this game, is that the graphics are simply stunning for an N64 game. If someone showed me this game and told me it was for GameCube, I would believe them, because the graphics are just awesome. Everything is very colorful and the universe is illustrated in a cute cartoony way that just gives this game a lot of charm.

This games music is also very nice. Most of the songs on the various levels may be looped, but they are not annoying and are lengthy so even though they repeat they are not repetitive and won't bore you. They each match well with the surroundings and provide an even more enjoyable experience.

However, this game is very short. There are only around five planets, each with only 3-4 levels in each, so even though the gameplay is fun and imaginative and the graphics are so colorful, the game is cut way short. This is a game that would otherwise be a great side scroller had it not been ending so quickly. But thankfully, you will find that the game is still fun to play over again, because the graphics, sound, and gameplay manage to make it a game that you can come back to and play familiar and even memorized levels again without getting bored, especially since there are so many combinations of powers. It may take a while to actually see every one.
