I was first introduced to the Klonoa universe through "Klonoa: Empire of Dreams", but after falling in love with that, i got "Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil". After figuring out "hey, this is Klonoa 2, there must be a Klonoa 1" i tracked down Door to Phantomile on the internet and got that. Once i heard about Dream Champ Tournament, i waited, then pounced the day it came out. The reason i kept buyng and playing (i've played each at least 5 times) the Klonoa games was because they are just fun, simple as that. They were perfect for me when i began gaming, simple controls, good challenge, and still perfect now that I am a seasoned gamer who will kill people using Jigglypuff or Pichu at Super Smash Bros., it still provides a fun challenge nontheless. The thing i truely liked about it was that it didn;t require just my timing and accurate jumps, it also requires my mind, its as if theress always a way to do somethign slightly differently or more effectivly and figuring that out is the fun part. Theres always a strategy, such as you cannot double jump without an enemy with you, making enemies both friend and foe, it can be knowing when they are which which can provide part of the challenge. I simply love games that reuire my mind in order to work ( a few of the puzzles on GBA can be harder, but i've gotten stuck for at least a half hour on some of the Klonoa 2 puzzles as well). If you see ANY Klonoa game, snag it, its worth the fun (and, other than "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile", they're pretty easy to find and under $25)
The gameplay is something so enjoyable that it keeps me coming back to it. the graphics are pretty good, but, since it runs on a 2D track, with the exception of boarding levels, but the enviornments are 3D, at times interactive, and simply beautiful in some cases, the graphics are quite good. The sound is good, and even if i can;t understand what they're saying, you can still hear emotion, such as fear or sarcasism easily, something that you wouldn't expect since you probably can't understand the language. The music itself goes rather nicely with the level. The only real problem is once you know what to do once, the game is no longer as much of a challenge, although it is still fun nonetheless, and the game is a little on the short side, won't take more than 10 hours to beat. If you see it (you should easily in any used gamestore), buy it, perfect game for a free weekend or day off.
