"Knight in the Nightmare" can have many classifications, however "amazing" is it's true description.

User Rating: 9.5 | Knights in the Nightmare DS
To begin, "Knights in the Nightmare" is a strategy-shooter role-playing game hybrid from Sting Entertainment and also Atlus U.S.A... It is also a very respectable one at that. As it has been quite a lengthy period of time since I've not only had a jovial time playing a game of this particular genre, but also been compelled to purchase such a game. As even games that have had a respectable reviews, and were given decent - to - high ratings, to me, blindly followed an identical pattern. However, in my humble opinion, I can safely proclaim that this game of the particular genres it has been developed upon is a "stand-out" game due to it's appeal to devout fanatics, of such genres.

Anywho, there are two primary characters in "Knights in the Nightmare". Firstly, the character, well.... "Object", that the player possesses control over is a "Wisp". I am not kidding! But do not fret, your objective is not dance in a circular fashion with fairies and elves in a field of majestical flowers. No! Your objective is to uncover the mysterious mystery concerning the "nightmare". Or so it may portray to you. However, you do not know your very own identity and you do not know the reason for your summon. * .. Clears throat.. * -- As stated previously, you have possession over a "Wisp", which for your information is white in colour. The "Wisp" is basically a pulsating white "ghostly" feature that will always remain present on the Nintendo DS screen, as well as always remaining present in conflict. The "Wisp" also takes possession of knights in order to engage in conflict, however, I'll explain that in greater detail later in this review. Now, the only ally of the "Wisp" is a mysterious armor-clad female warrior named "Maria", to whom the "Wisp" often encounters during the course of the story, and that description of "mysterious" comes from the fact that during her monologues she is extremely vague.

I would just like to explain a minor factor, it is not negative though. There are, basically, three game "modules", or "modes". Firstly, there is the "Plot Mode". In this sed mode, the player, *YOU* basically, can view cutscenes that you have recently viewed and wish to view again, or new cutscenes that you have obtained and wish to view. You can also gain knowledge of what has happened previously. There is also a mode entitled "Setup Mode". Now in this mode, the player, again *YOU*, can conduct preparations for conflict via equipping items and selecting a "unit", or "units". There are also other features in this mode. Finally, there is the "Battle Mode", and this is the mode *YOU*, the player, will become most acquainted with, as you will visit it most often. Simply put, it is the mode in which the conflict happens. It is also the mode in which *YOU*, the player, will have your skills put to the challenge!

Now finally, my opinion of the game-play! Conflict takes place in "real-time" on an isometric grid. The "Wisp", controlled via the touchscreen, moves around and that is how *YOU*, the player, gives orders to allied "units". When the "Wisp" comes into contact with a unit that can act, the attack must be aimed by moving around the "Wisp". However, the "Wisp" will be under constant enemy fire, in what can only be described as unfair "suppressive fire". *YOU*, the player, must guide the "Wisp" to dodge the fire as well as order the allied units to attack. Also, I'll briefly explain items. Normal attacks generate "Gems" which recharge the "Magic Point" meter; items can be used to generate "Skill Attacks" which can actually kill monsters or destroy objects, which, trust me, is helpful.

Despite having a timer, time is only deducted for charging attacks and when the "Wisp" takes damage. Thus the player has "unlimited" time to plan strategies and, although, in this manner resembles other strategy role-playing games, it is quite a good feature.

"Permadeath" exists exists as characters have a vitality stat which decreases when they use skills and other special circumstances. Vitality is replenished through leveling up, the "Transoul System", and other special circumstances. "Permadeath" is, basically, permanent death, which is often referred to as "permadeath" or "PD", is a situation in which player characters will perish and, as a result, be permanently and are removed from the game. Less common terms with the same meaning are "persona death" and "player death". This is in contrast to games in which characters who are killed, or incapacitated, can be restored to life, or full health, often at some minor cost to the character, the addition of "permadeath" created a harrowing challenge to keep the allied "units" alive.

Although, the game-play, is quite extensive, do not fret! The tutorial that "Knights in the Nightmare" has to offer is, for a tutorial actually, quite good. The tutorial will introduce *YOU*, the player, to the "mechanics" of "Knights in the Nightmare", so do not become ashamed of yourself for becoming frightened of the vastness of "Knights in the Nightmare".

As the final section of this review, I'll exlplain the sound and the graphics. The sound is placed with perfection into "Knights in the Nightmare". The sound is emotionally magic. Aspects, such as joyous and sorrowful moments that occur during the game, as well as a victorous battle or a defeat in battle, are enhanced solely due to the sound. Next, the graphics. The graphics are stunningly beautiful, simply gorgeous. And there is no exaggeration on my behalf. However, certain sections of the screen during conflict may seems disfiugured and transparent. Yet, they are only minor factors as you will be simply stunned by the awesome graphics, that you may not notice such things. All - in - all, "Knights in the Nightmare" is a simply unique alternate strategy game with game-play that is truly beautiful by fusing stylus-control, via the touchscreen, action with tatical "RPG". The perfection of sound, and graphics and multiple other factors make this game deserving of 9.5 rating, and classification of "amazing"!
