A surprisingly fun game despite its underratedness.
Chaotix was worked on by Sega of Japan and it originally started as Sonic Crackers, or Sonic Studium, or Sonic 4, and was first built on April fools' day 1994. But forget about that, this is a review of the final game!
This gem of a game is one that you ought to get if you're a sonic fan. It's different to any other sonic game. Like Sonic CD, a lot of the levels look very colourful and wacky, but make use of the larger colour pallete. You start the game as Knuckles, and explore a tropical island for a little while before you rescue a chameleon called Espio. You then explore the rest of the island before completing the level and truly starting the game. This is where you select your character and enter the world using the world entrance, funnily enough. You then use the combi catcher, which requires a bit of skill if you want a specific combi. I don't usually choose a specific one, but I try to steer clear of Heavy and Bomb, the two chaotix characters no one gives a flying crap about. The level you choose is also a "Lucky Dip" option. There are 5 zones with about 6 acts in each zone. once you finish every zone of every act, you have the big boss fight. There isn't much variation between each act of a zone, but it's still a fun game. What I like about the game the best is its special stages. you collect a required number of Blue spheres before getting a chaos ring. For the first time ever, a special stage is 3D, although it is a bit blandish.
So, if you have a 32X, or if you're a sonic fan who uses emulators, buy or download this game. It's certainly not a bad game, despite it being on a bad console.
