True Pathfinding Reincarnation

User Rating: 8 | Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess XBSX
  • Positive

    • · Takes disparate concepts that have never been brought together before and innovates on them over the course of the game so effortlessly, you’d think that Capcom has been making this type of game for an entire series.
    • · Beautiful art style and lush graphics, combined with an excellent soundtrack appropriate to Japanese folklore. The game also pays homage to Okami, a game with a similar look and feel, while still standing on its own legs.
    • · Slowly trickles out new mechanics, giving the player ample time to get used to every tool available before moving on to the next one.
    • · Monster designs are appropriately disturbing, seemingly drawing from several points of inspiration while still feeling cohesive.

  • Negative

    • · Some difficulty spikes early on feel harsh since they come along before the player has spent enough time to figure out the mechanics of the game.
    • · The final phase of the final boss fight takes away all your units and becomes a standard fare hack and slash fight. While not necessarily bad, straying from the mechanics that make the game unique is a bit disappointing.
