After finishing the exceptional "Siren", I was lost as to what game would fill my addiction to what I call J-Survial/Horror, then I saw a preview for "Kuon". I dove right in and was immediately drawn in to the game. Once you load up, you are given the option to play one of two phases (it doesn't matter which one you play first), either the "Yin Phase" in which you play as the sorrowful Utsuki, or the "Yang Phase" in which you are the young exorcist in training, Sakuya. Both are trying to make it alive out of the mansion which has become filled with creatures called gaki and other ghosts. Each girl has powerful magical cards that are thrown at the enemy (Utsuki has ones that Sakuya doesn't and vice versa) and each also has a weapon. Utsuki has magical dagger and Sakuya has a powerful magical fan. These get upgraded as you move through the game. There are also summon cards that bring forth an entity to help you when you are becoming overwhelmed by evil forces. The graphics are top notch and you can choose Dolby sound which is awesome. Also *get ready for it!*, YOU CAN SWITCH THE LANGUAGE TO JAPANESE AND HEAR THE ORIGINAL VOICES!!! This adds major ambiance to the whole game playing experience. With all that being so positive, I was dissapointed at the plot overall. The plot is like a house of cards that topples under it's own weight. I found myself going back and reading the "writings" over again to see if I was getting the story straight, and then found ... I still didn't care. It was hard to follow and most of it could have been cleaned up and presented a lot better. The one thing that truly saves "Kuon" is the brilliant ending which I won't give away here. After I finished both phases and the game loaded up again, my jaw dropped and I was like YESSSSSSSS!!! "Kuon" is a lot of fun and well executed and definately worth getting. Just ignore the plot and get ready for an exciting game with an awesome ending!
Why this game is so underestimated,i cannot understand. You can choose one of two characters to begin the game. The one is Utsuki, daughter of a local priest, and the other is Sakuya,a student of Utsuki's father. The ... Read Full Review
