KUON could´ve been better

User Rating: 7 | Kuon PS2
I was instantly attracted by the box cover of the game Kuon, a survival horror game set in ancient Japan, in which you could see a white, decaying face of a japanese girl, much like a ghost or living dead. I love this type of games so I bought it.

The graphics were great for the PS2, and in contrary to what most of the reviews say, I found the controls and gameplay quite entertaining, a little slow, but it handicapped the game the right way. The enemies are scary, the ambience in frightening, the whole setting (elaborate) got me intrigued to understand the story. I was expecting to experience the same thing that I did when I played the very first Resident Evil.

The drawbacks I found on the game where just two. First, it was too short. Second, the english traduction and subtitles were so bad... that annoyed me a lot, for I think the most important thing in any game, well, it´s the story, and I got to the end of the game and felt like so much of it was lost in translation.

My conclusion is... it could´ve been a great story, a lasting one, if it had been a little more clear and elaborate. It´s a beautiful game to watch, scary to play through, but it missed to reach that level of perfection, storywise, that makes a game popular.

It´s not all lost, though, if the game would be remade. and those particular mistakes corrected, it would draw a lot more players and fans.
