Good idea, not so good results

User Rating: 5.3 | Kya: Dark Lineage PS2
I liked what they planned for this game. Plenty of secrets that the story unfolds as you progress, using enemy-against-enemy combat system, and saving innocent creatures from an evil curse. Well, when I played the game, I would bet it didn't come out the way they wanted. The graphics are okay, but the controls can be a little annoying at times, especially in combat, and the whole saving innocents from baddies idea is WAY too overdone. You have a bad guy with his scary cloak and evil glare with his sinister-looking bird pet on his shoulder and for me, that reminds me of too many villains who are probably more bad ass than this guy. You then have the Wolfen. Stupid henchmen who are bend on enslaving the world. What's annoying in this game is all the things the villagers want you to do at once. They want you to save their people so they can rebuild their village and then, you have to go on missions to save them from the bad guys. The combat is just poorly done. Good luck trying to grab their tail and swing them into their own allies because they are so many of them that there is hardly any time to do so. The combos Kya can pull off do look really cool in the trailer but can be a real pain when you are trying to pull them off on those idiotic Wolfen. The level designs can either be confusing or just plain bad. I remember I spent an hour trying to find some item and when I would go through many wolfen and obstacles to get where the map said it was, it wasn't in sight. I then used the air-transportation to get to the lower level and still didn't find it. Sometimes, I wonder how people can beat this game. The story may be dark, but the characters and levels are completely childish. This game is way too immature to be a kid's game, yet has a mature storyline which can't make it a child's game. This game hardly deserves that T rating. The voice acting is just annoying and you have to buy certain bracelets that allow you to dish out combos that are nearly impossible to do when you are ambushed by Wolfen. Stealth? Forget it. Platforming? Forget about it. All out game? Well planned, poorly delivered.
