This game should have spawned a series.

User Rating: 9.7 | Lagoon SNES
Intro- Lagoon is a sleeper hit Action/RPG for the SNES. Gameplay- Play control is very responsive in this game. Your character (Nasir) has the ability to jump and use a wide variety of magic. The layout/maps of the game are impressive with a large list of enemies that attack in various ways. Lagoon uses a basic armor/weapon system (similar to YS3), but one of the impressive things about it is that your armor and shield are physically represented on Nasir as you equip different armors or shields on him. The game uses a money system and there are plenty of opportunities to utilize this system throughout the game's several towns. There is no slowdown and the game runs generally smoothly and quickly without having to stall for precious hours of gametime for leveling up. The only reason I deducted a point in this area is that some may have a problem with Nasir's sword animation (his sword does not have far reach). This is more than compensated with his magical abilities which allow him to attack almost long distances with some spells and effect the entire screen with others. Story- The story has many twists and turns but leaves more dialogue to be desired for a perfect rating. So essentially, my only complaint is that it was great, but there was not a lot of it. The story does flow nicely and makes sense which are the most important details in my opinion. Graphics/Sound- Whoaaa! Where to even begin here. Lagoon has amazingly good music and sound quality. The entire game has a great variety of spectacular tunes that really capture the mood of Lagoon. The boss music in this game is among the best of any game I have played and the normal level music is never dull or ambient. The sound of this game will grip you. The graphics are nothing short of the sound. Lagoon pushes the SNES to its full potential with crisp clean colors and even shadow effects. Certain areas of the game utilize overlapping background such as the cloud level or the high cliffs. Playing in these areas will actually make you dizzy, and this is a 2-D game! The enemy design and in game art are also awesome in every respect offering a diverse array of areas to play (caves, mountains, plains, castles) and no re-colors of any enemies (that's right, every enemy is unique). Play time/Replayability- This game offers well over 30 hours of playtime for the first time through(Action/RPGs are rarely as long as this game). In addition to having a long amount of playtime, Lagoon offers such a wonderful gaming experience that you will want to play it over and over. I have personally beat it 8 times and would not mind playing it again at all. Final Recommendation-10/10 You will be a better person for having played this game. I cannot give a stronger recommendation. -Geusprime
