A perfect example of a game developer that went in well over their heads.
The result is a game that could have been amazing, had it had a little longer to cook. The story is by far the strongest an most enthralling to date; being framed for the murder of her former mentor and friend, Wernor Von croy. She sets out to find who the killer really is, whilst getting mixed up in her usual tomb raiding antics.
Set-pieces are of the plenty, with you roaming the grotty streets of Paris, to ancient tombs, you won't by bored by the scenery. And it does try and stray away from the Tomb Raider of the old. The game is also bloody long. I mean a beast of a length. Which probably explains one of the many, many reason it got delayed so much. But overall in that aspect, you are definitely getting your money's worth.
Now on to the problems... The controls.... argh! The controls. This is the major flaw in the game, and it's one that brutally murders any glimer of a perfect game. They're sluggish, unresponsive, awkward and just a damn right pain in the arse to work with.
There's also the dodgy camera, the dumb A.I, the tacked on leveling up system, the so called 'multiple choices' in the game.
Basically alot of stuff put into the game, but never polished and finished off.
Even the graphics when the game first came out were dated (they look pretty awful now).
Graphics: Poor character models, ugly textures, glitchy. But yet, they have a certain charm to them. 5
Sound: The score is pretty epic, but voice acting is a drag. 7
Gameplay: It's Tomb Raider with a little twist on it, with an extra protagonist thrown into the mix. While it is samey at times, the constant set-piece changes will keep you threw it all. 7
Sh*te Box: Poor A.I, Graphics, voice-acting, controls!!
Overall: It's been along time since I've played this game, and I'm just over a quater into. And while I'm swearing at the controls, I'm still glued to the computer because of the story. If your a Raider fan you'll have played it. if your a new-skool fan, be weary. There is a story there, you just have to scrifice a lot to enjoy it.
