Aaaarrh! Atrocious review from GS! A Brilliant Multiplayer if you're not afraid of a challenge at higher lvls…
The game is created by the same developers who created the enormously addictive and popular DOTA (Defense of the Ancients). Having success with the initial mod for Warcraft 3 and slightly revolutionizing the gaming experience with this new MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) concept of game play, they obviously invested more time and money into this project and looked to improve most elements of the game from their original development.
I'm not going to explain much on the game play as it has been thoroughly exposed by other reviewers. I'll briefly cite that it's a VERY team oriented game, 5v5 or 3v3 (at the moment) and will require serious amount of skill to play at higher levels. The idea is to destroy the other team by reaching their main base through multiple lanes on the map that are guarded by towers which are tough to destroy, as you attempt to do so, you will be confronted by the opposing team and their minions. During the battle your chosen champion levels up and upgrades its items etc.
One of the reviewers said on here ''that DoTA is hard to learn and hard to master. But LoL is easy to learn hard to master.'' I agree with this statement and wish to add that this allows this game to be much more approachable for any new player to this game style in comparison to DoTA which was quiet harsh for new player base, as I recall. So there shouldn't be a fear factor for any new player trying this game and be bullied by veterans.
There is a leveling system implemented where usually inexperienced player won't be matched against a much stronger and experienced players. I emphasize on the "usually", since sometimes this may still happen, not because that the matching system is poor but often because some players restart anew after having reached level 30 and decide to create new profiles, already having experienced playing the game they will play against weaker players. But then again these situations are hardly avoidable and this doesn't necessarily kill the fun factor of the game, just a miniature nuisance that should be expected from most multiplayer games.
Ultimately, League of Legends is a very deep, strategic, team oriented, test of skill, fun and a rewarding game in which you will spend countless hours mastering you champions and competing with others. The community is great, friendly and growing. Myself am glad to see the developers treat their fan base with care, and determined to create this game as best as possible. League of Legends is bound to become one of the most competitive multiplayer games and communities in the industry.
Now, I can rant about how disgraceful and unjust LoL's review from GS is, but all I will say is this;
I don't believe that GS's review was reasonable at the time, and since then the game has improved on a massive scale, and League of Legends doesn't just deserve another review, it definitely deserves a score higher than a 6.
Personal score: 9/10
