If being beat to a pulp by an endless horde isn't your cup of tea, turn the tables and send the infected back to hell.
Left 4 Dead is the story, plotless though it may be, of four archetypal survivors. The grizzled war vet, the hard core biker, the obligatory young woman and, with apologies to Action Jackson, the token black guy have been brought together by an infection of unknown origin. As the horde crashes down on them, these four unlikely, yet deliciously cliche characters attempt to escape to an unnamed safe haven by traversing four incredibly deadly locales, from the familiar zombie infested city to an isolated farmland. As of 4:15 AM CST, Left 4 Dead also boasts a lighthouse setting at which the survivors make a final desperate stand.
Left 4 Dead creator Valve is known for attention to detail and excellent execution of physics in game environments, and Left 4 Dead is no disappointment. Though some areas and situations are troubled by minor glitches, the overall quality of the game makes such frustrations fade away quickly. Perhaps the greatest strength Valve has displayed in this area is a dedicated attempt to resolve issues and avoid making the same mistakes twice.
If you haven't played Left 4 Dead, now is the time to join the throng, as the new update has evened the playing field. With two new versus maps and the survivor mode occupying the attention of most veteran players, there is plenty of room for trial and error, and the excitement in the Left 4 Dead community is as infectious as the disease that ravaged the game world.
