I was addicted to this game from the day I got the demo in the mail. I had never seen a battle system such as this and have yet to see another one done so well. The battle system of Legaia is so flawless, the actual fighting is as close to real time as it gets. What other game has such changes in your speed in battle as magic allowing you to move first or powering up having you move lower down in the chain. Since input commands are done at the very beginning of each round, the fight scenes are a nice treat for you to actually sit back and watch instead of having to input more commands.
Besides all of that, the story of the game is rather good as well. I know that after playing this game, I really wished that I had my own Ra-Seru (I was like 9 or 10 at the time).
