Who would have thought that Legos and Star Wars could come together so well to create a simply fun game?

Lego Star Wars is a pretty unique game that takes what we love about action/platforming games, Star Wars, and Legos and blends them together so well. At first, the game may not appeal to a lot of players, as it looks somewhat childish. Well... it is, but that shouldn't stop you from trying it out. Lego Star Wars is an all around fun game to play.

First off, the gameplay in Lego Star Wars is pretty standard with a few exceptions. You'll have all of your basic action/platformer moves, and each character will have different "special" moves. These moves aren't unique to each character, rather, different character classes will have different special abilities. For example, characters equipped with blasters can use grappling hooks, droids can open certain doors, some characters can jump higher than the others, and of course, Jedi can use the force to either push enemies away or in a lot of situations, assemble piles of Lego pieces. This provides some variety in the gameplay, and a lot of the puzzle solving in Lego Star Wars revolves around team work. Although none of the puzzle solving is terribly difficult, it is pretty clever how the character switching and teamwork plays out in the game. The only drawbacks to the gameplay in Lego Star Wars include the fact that the game may seem ridiculously easy to some people, and the fact that it is very short.

The sound in Lego Star Wars is as good as it gets for a Star Wars game. A lot of the tracks are very recognizable, as they are all taken directly from the movie scores, compsed by John Williams. All the blaster sounds, lightsaber buzzes and hums, and music are right on par here.

The overall value of Lego Star Wars is pretty debatable. As stated before, the game is quite short (it can pretty much be beaten in one sitting), but it does have plenty of extras and unlockables to add to the replay value. Now that the game's price has dropped significantly (it's now a budget title), the length and value can be justified. If you're still not sure, rent it. Either way, you'll probably enjoy Lego Star Wars, no matter how long it lasts you. And it's budget price should entice any Star Wars fan and Lego fans alike.
