Had the potential to be the absolute best open-world racing game.
Let me start by saying that I have been in love with Invictus Games since its inception, and I was very glad to see 1nsane and Cross Racing Championship both got their well-deserved recognition.
This game is pretty much the next level after CRC with the car-handling engine tuned to perfection. Yes, in my opinion it doesn't really get better than this when it comes to road-racing games.
The cars are pure joy to handle, and with an outlet of realistic maps ranging from US to Japan and cars of all classes, this game had the potential to hit it big, to be a cult classic for people who prefer mountain or city roads instead of race-tracks.
However, the idea of basing the game entirely online ruined it in my opinion. Obviously the community is not something the developers have control over. For beginners it is very difficult to immerse in this new world the game presents, as the servers are very scattered and there is also a lot of cheating going on, basically; chaos.
I would be happier if this was released as a disc, so I could buy it and put it next to my copy of CRC, but the content-buying is not something a casual gamer would do. Why should I buy a virtual Mazda RX7 if the servers are going to be shut down at some point and I will lose it?
All in all, this game is the perfect example for today's marketing policy ruining the good stuff and not letting art be what it was originally meant to be. This game was meant to be the best road-sim in my opinion, and in a way, still is. I recommend downloading Project Torque, because even though it is very uncomfortable waiting hours for all the updates to finish and then half an hour for a host to start the match; but when it does start, it's pure gold.
