Limbo has a wonderfully unique style to it but it sacrificed content in the long run
Limbo stars a little boy, who's fate is unknown and the game even keeps you guessing; is he alive? dead? in between? Anyway, he wakes up in the middle of this dark forest and is about to find out that the world he is now in is more than unwelcoming. However, he must run through and conquer this world to find out what exactly is going on.
As said before, the visuals are absolutely stunning to say the least. The game is all black and white and every character, including the protagonist, is a dark silhouette with little to no features. The atmosphere in this game is some of the best I have ever seen with that depressing and isolated feeling from the moment you start a new game. This unique style will immerse you immediately, even without a soundtrack to accompany you on your journey.
The puzzles feel fresh too. They are, for the most part, challenging and will even force you to slow down and think on how to overcome them. Every now and then you get one that's obvious and others require you to be perfect with your jumps or whatever action is required. The platforming elements and puzzles are complimented by the smooth and responsive controls and the enemies even have to be defeated differently as well. However, the one major problem I have with this game is that it ends, and you can beat it within an hour and a half to 2 hours on your first run. For a $15 game, I would expect more. That, and there is 0 replay value in this game unless you're an achievement nut. There aren't any other modes in this game to help either.
I would give Limbo a higher score for its beautiful visuals, depressing yet spine tingling atmosphere and some interesting puzzles. However, it ends way too soon and $15 is just too much to ask for a 2 hour game with nothing to do after completion. I would say it is definitely worth a playthrough but I would also recommend waiting for a price drop or for a deal to be offered first.
