LBP2 has to be one of the greatest games the PS3 has to offer!
▪ Endless creation tools and combos ▪ Great music ▪ Well-created story levels ▪ Much better than the first game! ▪ Sequencer provides a whole new way of creating games.
Bad:
▪ Tutorials could've helped out a bit more with more advanced creation methods. ▪ Ending is a little cliche. ▪ Online annoyances, such as auto-rejection, and game join time outs.
If you were looking for a game that tests your creation skills and puts them to utterly fun and compelling level making, then Create for Xbox 360 is THE creation game - just kidding.
LittleBigPlanet 2 for PS3, on the other hand, isn't just another brilliant creation game, it's a brilliant creation game that takes your hidden artistic and creative talents, upgrades them, evolves them and promotes them to infinite levels!
Story - In the intro level, Sackboy is walking along a pretty detailed and peaceful plane while a familiar tune plays in the background. Peaceful, until a giant hoover-like creature called the Negativitron comes down from the sky and inhales everything in its way! Luckily, he is saved by a group led by Larry Da Vinci called 'the Alliance'. You must join the Alliance and work as a team if you want to beat the 'hoover-thing!'
Gameplay - After completing a few of the action packed Story levels, a new section called 'Me' is unlocked - this is where the REAL game starts. In Me, you can create publishable levels with the game's new tools, including:
▪ The Grabinators, which let you to lift up and throw stuff easily.
▪ The Grappling Hook, which you can use to swing across stuff.
▪ The Creatinator, which can fire anything you like e.g. stuff.
▪ Gadgets, which replace the logic system from LittleBigPlanet 1.
▪ Connectors, which are still here with Gadgets e.g. bolts, pistons.
The only thing that can be said about this, though, is the long load times that vary with how much stuff is in the level and can even freeze if the level is big enough.
Sound - The music for LittleBigPlanet 2 is original and quite catchy. Each track fits nicely with the situation you're creating and none of them manage to be annoying. If, however, you're creating an Assassin's Creed-esque game that doesn't seem to fit with any of the songs that are provided, just make your own! The new music sequencer lets you make your own tunes and with over 30 different instruments to use in your songs, what's not to like?
Overall - This is an awesome game that lasts a lifetime with everything you could ever want from a creation game and more. Despite some online quirks, the online experience is like no other, overall. If the original was a creation-fest, then this game is a creation-stravaganza!
Score - 9.3
