Loco Roco is one of those kind of games you want to see on a PSP. It's quirky, innovative, unique, and charming in ways, aside from the Katamari series, that Sony typically isn't capable of producing, but for all its wonder and awe it's pretty damn repetitive and short. The game is kind of like a good Charms blowpop, it takes a few good licks to get to the gummy center and intially the gum is sweet and great, but after repeated chewing it quickly loses its flavor. The storyline is simple. Some alien baddies have invaded the loco roco's homeland and are trying to kill them off. You must guide these cute little bloby LRO's to safety using the clear L and R trigger buttons atop the PSP. Clicking the L trigger causes the stage to tilt left and the right causes the stage to tilt right. You begin most stages with 1 loco roco and have to find additional LRs by locating the flowering red plants that germinate and hide your LRs buddies. It's a fun gameplay concept at first that will have to tilting and twisting your PSP along with the clicks of your L and R triggers, but soon it wears thin as you're trying to propel your LRs off the trampoline for the 5th time in the vain attempt to access the hidden area of the stage simply to grow to a larger size. As far as other gameplay goes, you also can use the circle button to trigger lightening from the sky that splits your Loco Rocos apart into however many you have collected. This is useful for going through clockwork-like stage cogs and other stage mechanics. There are some other goals in game such as collecting Mui Mui Statues (at least I think that's what they're called), but it's a very linear game with decent replay value for the same reason Katamari has replay value: collection and completetion. The music is sacchrine cute. It's catchy, happy, and will haunt your dreams. I have mixed reactions about it as it's often too cutesy for my enjoyment, but I can't imagine anyone except a cold-hearted scrooge saying it's not fitting or mildly enjoyable. There's not much more to say about Loco Roco. It really is like a Charms Blowpop, even Kojak would like it, but there's not much depth to truly enjoy it. It's a substitute for a more addictive product. *I give the gameplay a 9 based simply on innovation. It's too repetitive to warrant it, but I'm not fond of how the scoring works for this site...
