A fun, challenging shooter that is worth anybody's time. Makes blasting space bugs a blast.
One of the main weaknesses of Lost Planet is the story. You probably know that already. It is confusing but at the same time it doesn't get in the way of blasting space bugs, known as the Akrid here, as well as evil people in mechanical suits called VS. It's clear who the bad people are, so although a more straightforward story would have been nice it really doesn't mess things up. There are some cut-scenes in between the 11 missions but they are confusing since you are in one place during the cut-scene but when the action starts up again you are somewhere else. Also any weapons you had from the previous missions are lost.
The gameplay itself is solid. Every weapon feels different and i liked the sound they make when fired. The sound in this game is really good. A big part of the game is driving around in mechanical suits called VS, like I mentioned earlier. They are fun to handle and there are different types of VS and each has its own special features.
It is also worth noting that this game is tough. Some of the alien bugs are difficult to take down even in a VS and some of the evil people use heavy machinery against you. There is also a boss encounter after almost every mission, which is a good thing. Some of these bosses are really hard though, especially the final boss. Expect to die many times on your playthrough of Lost Planet.
As far as graphics the game looks ok for an early PS3 game. I have and played the demo on the XBOX 360 and both games look alike and felt the same. Unfortunately in both versions your main character Wayne moves kind of slow, nothing to bad but it would have been nice if he had a sprint button or something. Voice acting is passable but not that great. Regardless of these imperfections still a fun game.
I'm going to buy Lost Planet 2. That alone says how I felt about Lost Planet Extreme Condition. Well worth my time and I'm looking forward to playing the sequel.
