Puzzle games are nothing new. Ever since Tetris first took America by storm and was ported to just about every conceivable platform (including calculators!), many games have been derived from this basic formula of placing blocks in a specific manner to make them disappear. It's a wonder that such a simple concept hasn't already been done to death, which is what makes Lumines that much more interesting to play. It's a simple concept, executed brilliantly, and makes you wonder, "Why hadn't anyone thought of that before?" Like any puzzle game, you'll probably find yourself scoring pretty low at first, but once your mind starts to work the way the game requires, you'll score combos left and right, and you won't have to consciously think about it. Once you reach this level of "Lumines" being, it's a very rewarding experience to play. Addictive, stylish, and a great time-killer, Lumines will probably sell a few PSPs by itself. There's more to it than initially meets the eye, and patient players will be richly rewarded.
