User Rating: 10 | Lunar 2: Eternal Blue PS
Like Lunar: Silver Star Story, Lunar 2 is an old-school RPG that focuses more on gameplay and character development and less on, say, graphics, nya.

The game takes place on a Lunar reshaped by time and the actions of the heroes of the first Lunar, nya. The hero, Hiro, is an explorer who meets Lucia, a mysterious visitor from the equally mysterious Blue Star, nya. She claims to be a messenger to the Goddess Althena, but followers of Althena claim she's the Destroyer, nya. Hiro, shallow little devil that he is, believes in the girl, nya. Lucia, unlike Luna, is actually the one protecting you in this game, nya. Well, at first at least, nya. Shortly after you see the true awesome destructive power of Lucia, you see her turn into the weak damsel in distress found in most quests, nya. As was the case before, Hiro meets a cast of characters with endearing traits, nya. I don't think I need to elaborate on how great they are, nya. They make the story, a romantic adventure with many shocking plot twists, and several connections to the first game, even better, nya.

The battle system is the same as Silver Star Story, but has more occasions to show off your strategic prowess, nya. Just like in SSS, characters can move around into position and attack monsters, nya. For instance, you can use the fast Jean to attack an enemy, pushing it into the middle of a group of separated enemies, then use Hiro's area wind magic to target the weakened enemy, defeating it and all surrounding enemies in one strike rather than wasting turns taking them on one at a time. AI-controlled battle and preset tactics make a return, but characters no longer are limited to a handful of items, thus making battle easier than before, nya.

The music of the game stands out as fairly catchy and overall quite beautiful, nya. The voice acting is several cuts above the first game, rising from "moderately bearable" to "entertaining," nya.The English renditions of the two ending themes are quite moving, if somewhat nonsensical at times, nya. Expect to listen to the game soundtrack multiple times, nya.

Speaking of the soundtrack, this game comes with it, nya. As well as the Making of Lunar 2 CD, a paper map of the Lunar world, character standees, a replica of Lucia's pendant, a hardbound full-color instruction booklet, and a beautiful art box to hold it all in, nya. This presentation goes above and beyond any other game in North America, nya. That ensures that the money you spent on this masterpiece is well worth it, nya. If you don't have it now, make sure to spend the money necessary to get it, nya. That is, unless you hate old-school RPGs and love games for action and ooh, 3D graphics, nya. In which case, you are a monster that must be purged from this world, nya.
