A shining Working Designs classic.

User Rating: 9.6 | Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete PS
The world of Lunar is a magical land that you may never want to leave. Just from the beginning of this anime adventure, you start to feel warm and fuzzy just by watching the opening movie and listening to the opening song (I should know). Lunar: The Silver Star Story Complete has come to your playsation and is bringing you a story that you’ll be telling your grandkids when you hit the rocking chair remembering what a hype the Playstation 3 was.

Originally, Lunar: The Silver Star Story Complete, was a classic on the Sega CD, but after just a few years in development, it improves a significant deal. In the game, you play as this boy named Alex who wants to become a Dragonmaster and travels along with his flying white kitty Nall. There is a great cast of memorable characters, all of who have a good acting and a sense of humor. Of course there are points at which you would wish for the characters to have better lines and responses, but this is only to contribute to the humor that you will find throughout the game. The story line is also very original, one that I’m sure not very many will have thought of, so I’ll just leave you to find that out for yourselves.

You know what’s awesome about the game when you buy it? It’s the box when you first open it (Yes the box is actually cool for once.). When you get it, you get more than your money’s worth when you first pick it up. Not only do you get a behind the scenes disc as well as a soundtrack disc that comes with two game discs, but also a cloth map of the world of Lunar and a LEATHERBOUND (You read this right) booklet with a handy red bookmark that’s over 100 pages long. It’s like your ordering from a McDonalds and all of a sudden, your presented with a feast fit for Louis XVI. You can anticipate that this game will keep you occupied for quite a while, and it does. The game lasts for up to 40 hours at the very least, so you can save money while playing this masterpiece.

The graphics are definitely dated since it’s a world of sprites. It’s only a good thing this is a Playstation game so it doesn’t go against everything that the Playstation 2 or Playstation 3 is able to do. It makes up for this though with its colorful backgrounds and the anime scenes you’ll always enjoy watching. Even when you see the sprite background of the game, you feel as though you’re in a whole new world and will just wish that you could enter this magical realm.

The only big downside to this game is that it is quite simplistic. This game has a tactics system that would seem to make it complicated but can easily be mastered in a short amount of time. The controls are really simple to remember, you only use the arrow buttons and the x button to activate, or choose something. When it comes to battle though, you get a variety of spells and weapon attacks that are really pretty and may even give the same seizures that you get while watching anime shows. The tactic system is different from most RPG styles, you have to put your characters within a square, and your decision of where they are put determines how easily the enemies will be able to get to them. You can put them in front to reach the enemies you want to kill the most, but risk being attacked a lot, or you could get in the back and embrace the attacks from your enemies while waging magic war. Basically, you can consider this game to be an RPG for noobs to video games. But even if you’re an experienced player, you’ll enjoy just playing along and enjoying the story line.

If you’re just getting started for your life in video games, you should consider this for your first grade year. But if you’re a fan of Japanese RPG’s and want to find a new story, you should search on ebay for this with its awesome box set. The world of Lunar is a game that you’re guaranteed to enjoy, especially if you’re into classic games.
