Madden ’95 is a big improvement over Madden ’94 in some ways but in others it takes a huge drop. By the time Madden ’95 came out Joe Montana’s game from Saga was starting to have a very big following and these two great franchises were fighting for the number one spot. Madden ’95 probably beat Montana this year in sales but I preferred Joe’s game more then Madden back in the day. On to the review… Game Play: (3 of 10): EA Sports finally did something about the game play being too easy, unfortunately the way they did was to make the game “cheep” (meaning the CPU will cheat). In all Madden’s before this game it was WAY too easy to run on the computer, so EA decided to even that up by making your running back as slow as a turtle. I was the Lions with Barry Sanders who was very fast back then, but in this game I couldn’t get him to get around the tackles before a Def. player hit him. And if I was able to get up field he would fumble the ball way too often (Sanders hardly ever fumbled the ball in real life.). As far as the computers running attack I had trouble stopping it. If I broke into the backfield and tried to tackle the back he would almost always just shed me like a snake does his skin. The passing game is better this year with the new windowless passing lets us see you receivers run their routes. Like I have said in all reviews of older Madden’s they are all way more fun to play with a group of friends and this year you can play with the 4 way play (2 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 1, or even 4 vs. computer). Options: (6 of 10): This Madden ’95 finally added a season mode that tracks your players stats throughout the season. The big thing is they took away all the extra teams except the All-Madden team in Madden ’94 they had 80 teams to play with now in ’95 you only get 28! Big let down! One other thing this game did was to allow you to sub players, which is a nice feature. They also had 48-player roster for each team. They also have the players name in the game so you can throw a touch down from Young to Rice. Although during the game you will only see the players numbers while controlling them. You can play in rain, snow, wind, or fair conditions. Audio/Video: (5 of 10): The graphics are better in this game then years past but still not great. EA Sports put the players in “3-D” while giving them special move like straight arms, high steps and QB slides. The field looks the same as it did for several years but it is bigger. As with all Maddens before the audio is just okay; Madden will drive you nuts with his Maddenisms. At first they may be funning, but after ten times they become old! Replayability: (3 of 10): If you are looking for a football game for the Genesis there are a lot better then this (Tecmo Super Bowl, Madden ’96, NFL ’95 to name a few.). I would only suggest this game if you are trying to get all Madden’s games. This has to be one of the worst Madden games ever.
This game is great except that every time I go up by ten or more points, playing as the Bengals of course, the computer will cheat a ball all the way down the sideline or up the middle to give them a quick 7. Apparently... Read Full Review
Madden 95 for the Sega Genesis is a very frustrating football game that isn't really worthy of the franchise nor is it a great successor to the excellent Madden 94. There are several things that are striking about Mad... Read Full Review
