A Review about Mafia II:

User Rating: 5 | Mafia II PC
Like many people before me, I also got myself a copy of Mafia 2. I played the first game, so I expected a lot from this game. I also heard some bad reviews, and saw some boring trailers. But still, I gave it the benefit of the doubt.

The Story
You (Vito Scaletta) and you're friend Joe start as a couple of small time criminals. At some point, a heist has gone wrong. Joe escaped, but you were to slow. The government gave you a option, go to jail or fight the war against the Nazis. So you went in the army, at some point you take control of Vito and need to fight some Sicily Soldiers. After you finished that, you career goes on and at some point you get shot and was send home for Christmas. After you visited your mother and sister, you meet up with Joe, and start you're rampage of the City.

Unlike the first game, Mafia 2 does not really have much of a story, except that Joe and you are friends. The game has 15 Chapters, and each of them tells a small story. So there is not really a big story line, but small stories that have some connection to each other.

Gameplay
The game mostly consist of get a car, go to someone (mostly Joe), drive him around a bit, go home and sleep and do it all over again. And at some points, you need to fight multiple enemies, that spawn mostly right around the corner.

After each missions you get paid, but you can only spend your money at guns, suits and tuning you're car. But you don't really need to buy anything, the cars are fast enough, and you crash against everything if you drive too fast. Because the steering and narrow streets are not build to go faster than 40 miles a hour. You also get plenty of weapons in the missions, and you lose them just as fast. At multiple points in the game, you are stripped down of your cash, guns and suits and after you finished that chapter you need to start earning everything back again.

You also have multiple brawling fights scenes in the game, were you need to kill your enemies with your fists. These fight scenes mostly consist of, you pressing the dodge button and when he attacks you attack him. And hope that you hit him faster, then he hits you.

Mostly the game is based on luck, multiple scenes will kill you right away. Like the getaway scene were they are firing Tommy Guns at you. You just need some luck to get past the first corner, maybe you get there the first time, or the tenth time. If you get hit, you are dead.

Conclusion
I never have seen a worst prequel to a game then Mafia 2. The game is boring, from the first minutes you played it, till the bitter end. Plenty of times you need to drive from one end of the town to the other end and then go back again. Were you did nothing at all, then picking someone up and driving them to a different point again.

There is also no main story, you just go from Chapter to Chapter and at the end you kill everybody. I almost thought that at the end, Joe would have turned against you. And he almost did, if they did that they would have been promoted to the worst game of the Century. But now, it is the worst game of the year. But still they took him away at the end, and the probably killed him. And you are driving away with a old pale that saved your live. Leaving you with a open story, were you don't know what will happen to Vito Scaletta

I only finished this game on Hard, because I did not wanted to waste my 50 bucks on nothing. Pity that I got it from Steam, because I would have gone back to the shop and trade it for something else. Even a bloody WII game, is better than this piece of crap.
