It took a long time to make a sequel to this game and they really dropped the ball. In mafia II you play a small time hood who works his way up the ladder. Well you really do not work your way up the ladder you just do jobs and such. I have to say the first thing you see about this game is that its in chapters. You think its going to be a free roaming game like GTA but instead its chapter based. Yes chapters where they tell you what to do and how to do it. It kinds kills the game because you could see how much better the game could have been. I really think part of the problem with this game is the difficulty. There is no medium ground the missions are either really easy or really hard. You can play some missions and plow thru them easily then some that you will constantly die. Another apsect that is troubling is the hit detection. You can be standing far away and shoot a guy a few times and he does not die but he hits you once and you are dead. Also there are times when the guys just walk right up to you and there is nothing you can do about it. You are dead and you have to start over from the very beginning of the mission. Another problem this game has is that it is short. 15 chapters which you could probably do in a weekend or 2 days. Of course this game has what everybody lovesss..DRIVING!!. Yes every mission requires you driving to places sometimes long driving. You can spend up to 5 mins just driving to locations which after can become boring. I have to admit that when the action happens you are all in. Its fun running around shooting and of course ducking. Cover is your new friend when the action starts. The major problem is that the action sequences are few and far between in this game. There are way too many driving scenes talking scenes non action scenes. They also introduce fighting which is not bad. You get to fight a few people but it really does not add much to the game. The graphics are beautiful in this game and the old time music not bad. Also driving if you crash too much you could die. You know no seat belts and such so be careful there. This is a well done game that could have done so much more. For such a long wait its not good like it should have. Next time a free roaming game ala gta which allows you to do more would make this a better game. Also there are playboy magazines which you find thru out the missions but lets face it when you are in the middle of a fire fight is there any time to look around for magazines. I cannot reccommned this game to buy because it is too short chapter based and could be solved in a weekend. It is definately worth a rental and if you like it then buy it but be forewarned. After you spend your $65 bucks and solve the end it is going to leave you wanting more and with a cheated feeling.
