MAG is a different type of game. If you are a MW2 fanboy than this game is most likely not for you.
Graphically I will admit that this game is not that pretty. But for the numbers it runs it could be a lot worse. You should not have expected to see stellar graphics with this one from the get go. But they are pleasing enough to not take away from the experience.
The gameplay and shooting mechanics are solid and require a good amount of skill to be successful. There is no sticky aiming reticule when you aim down the sights like MW2 which adds to the realism. This game is a little slower paced than MW2 and is just more engaging and tactical. Usually, if you have the enemy outnumbered you will kill them. The game is just more practical than most online shooters because if you get killed, it is usually because you were outnumbered or the enemy was just a better shot than you.
The two best parts of MAG are the upgrade system and being a leader. The upgrade system is very good in my opinion because when you level up you get skill points to use in a skill tree-like system that lets you unlock anything that you want as long as you meet the requirements of the previous skill boxes. This is a good system because you don't have to use the weapon you want to upgrade in order to make it better. Being a leader has a lot of perks as well. Not only do you feel cool because you can issue orders but you can call in air strikes, cluster bombs, UAVs, artillery, and more. On top of that you get leadership bonuses which makes your leadership perks a little stronger.
This game is not all perfect though. It can be real frustrating when some people camp by your spawn and when you run into battle and get shot down, which will cause you to have to sprint back into battle again and again. In my experience the lag on this game has been non-existent on the smaller game modes which involve 64 or 128 players. But the 256 player matches work pretty well for the most part but when they do get laggy it can be quite frustrating. I do believe that the servers have had some maintenance to eliminate this problem already because it was an issue early on but lately seems to have been improved. I assume that it will only get better too. The last little complaint that I have about this game which is real small is that I am a MW2 player which runs at 60 frames per second locked but MAG runs at about 30 frames per second locked. I did not expect this game to be at 60 fps locked because of its massive size but it is a hard adjustment to make because your character moves at a different pace. There is also no campaign mode in this game which is kind of a downer because the game is strictly online. I did not expect a campaign in this game but the extra effort for a little more offline play than the training missions would have extended this games content a little bit.
All in all though zipper deserves to be applauded for making such a massive competitive shooter which works pretty well. If you want something different and more of a real experience that involves skill and tactics then MAG is for you.
