Majesty brings the most revolutionary change to real time strategy games from the genre's inception
There is one crucial difference though that makes Majesty unlike any strategy game you've played before, all you units are completely autonomous. They have their own personalities, wills and agendas and while you may coax them to do certain actions (explore an area or kill a monster) by placing rewards, there is no guarantee they will follow your wishes or work together to attain them.
You may aid your heroes by providing places where they can spend money from rewards and loot to purchase better equipment and potions, by casting an occasional spell and by establishing different kinds of guilds which will house heroes with complementary abilities. The rest is up to them and just watching their actions is quite captivating. You'll be cheering them on through each small victory and each experience level gained. You will despair with them when they encounter a too powerful monster and choose to fight. And you will curse them when they choose to run from one not so powerful. The authors' sense of humour shows in the various spoken sequence the heroes will comment their actions with. Comments like a dwarf's running away from a vampire with "if I had my good hammer, you'd be sorry" will often bring a smile to your face.
While most of the quests in the game play in essentially the same way, they are well designed and the difficulty increases quite a bit in later parts. Combined with the fact that every quest will randomise the map slightly each time it is started gives Majesty a lot of replayability.
Bottom line: the sheer fun the simulation aspects bring to a real-time strategy game must be experienced first hand. This game is a must-play for every strategy game fan!
