The Game Is Visually Impressive And There Are Some Nice New Features, But The Technical Problems Are What Ruin It

User Rating: 5.5 | Major League Baseball 2K8 X360
The Good:
-Animations are impressive.
-Jon Miller and Joe Morgan do a good job calling the action.
-The ability to add your own music when walking up to the plate.
-Plenty of game modes.
-Collector Cards are a nice feature.
-Signature batting/pitching moves are a nice touch.
-Swing stick can be fun to use.

The Bad:
-Frame rate is appalling when the ball is hit into play, which makes fielding an issue. (Fielders also sometimes take an eternity to get the ball out of their gloves because of this and baserunners often stand there for a few seconds after the out has been recorded.)
-Collecting cards is time-consuming.
-Post-game highlights are unwatchable from frequent frame rate jitters.
-Bugs make transitioning from one menu to the next and from one screen to the next frustrating and player shadows are often left behind because of this.
-Online is laggy.
-Controls are rather sluggish.
-Blatant In-game advertising for State Farm Insurance.
-Has a rushed feel to it.
-Just a whole slew of technical problems that should have been caught.

Overall, MLB 2K8 is a visually impressive baseball sim with a lot of gameplay options, but the technical problems are what hold it back. Clearly, this game was probably rushed and no one seemed to have taken the time to catch these issues, especially when the frame rate drops when the ball is hit into play. This game would have been more fun to play if someone had taken the time to iron out all the technical flaws.
