Can be fun, but boring at the same time.
Most of the community sucks. It doesn't matter which server you play in, there are always those that A) Have trouble spelling. B) Tends to scam or hack. C) "KSes" you. and D) Give out random defames. HOWEVER, there are some out there that are really, absolutely nice.
The controls in MapleStory are very easy. MapleStory allows players to edit/change the controls to their liking, but the facial emotions and the arrow keys aren't allowed to be moved, in which this case just beats me. But once you get to a higher level, and you use more skills, all your keys would probably be used and you might forget which key uses which skill.
The music played in this game is a mixture of happy, sad, weird, or just plain scary. It just depends where you are.
I can say that the training is HORRIBLE! Leveling from maybe 1-20 is fine, but when you get to maybe your 30s or 40s, leveling is like a chore. Never ending. Always there. It's also known as "grinding". Where you just train non-stop just to hear that, "DINGGGGG!" and see the "Level Up!". After that, your % goes back to ZERO and you train again.
Overall, I must say that MapleStory is fun, but can be boring. I've been playing for over 2 years, and it's gotten old. From the old communities where nearly everyone was nice, to today's communities where everything has changed. Nexon is now a money-eating company. They'll do anything just to make more, and more, and more money (my personal opinion).
Sure you can try it out, but once it gets boring to you, you'll realize how much it had sucked your life away while you can be doing other things.
