Free, fun, free, time consuming and FREE!
A major selling point of the game is that it is free, that's right FREE. But how do they make their money you ask? The game as i said is free unless of course you want to delve into the world of NXCash. This is a form of in game store credit bought with real money. The items that it can be exchanged for vary from the dull but effective shop permits to more extravagant items such as rainbow wigs, "fashionable" new haircuts and pets wearing top hats. The game however is perfectly playable without any of these add-ons.
The first thing that strikes you after starting the game is the graphical style of the game. The graphics are very stylised in a japanese comic book style with very colourful worlds and characters with big hair... The varying locations in the game all have their own unique look and are, in places, more impressive than a fully realised 3d world could ever be. The menu system is also well made and easily navigated. However, the roster of monsters in the game is bolstered by variations on the same set monster, for example certain monsters are only different to others because they are different colours. This only a minor annoyance though and only slightly detracts from the enjoyable visuals of the game.
The actual gameplay itself is very simplistic. With a functional but uninspired fighting system of hammering attack. But as you progress through the game it becomes more complex and impressive with a greater selection of attacks and tactical options. Also the enemies get progressively more difficult and powerful, some can only be brought down by large parties of people. The leveling system is as would be expected for a game of this genre with skill points being acquired once levelling which can be spent on attributes and skill points to be used on, well, skills. there are however many different paths that can be taken through the game. There are 4 different classes: thieves, archers, warriors and mages. Then these split into more specific classes at later stages.
The game has no level cap like more well known RPGs such as WoW and Guild Wars so there is no real end to the game. The simple levelling process makes the game highly addictive like sugary sweets and you will find the game starting to eat into your free time, if you let it. There is so much more that could be said about the game but i fear i have gone on too long already. Even if the game isn't for you it is still worth downloading and trying out as it won't cost you a shiny penny.
