A side-scrolling adventure worth trying out.

User Rating: 8.2 | Maple Story PC
While Maple Story may not seem like it at first, it is a surprisingly good online game with unique graphics and sounds with a good touch of gameplay.

The first thing about the game (which is the most unique) that you’ll most likely notice that it’s an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) side-scroller. The game’s graphics have an anime feel on the characters with beautiful backgrounds that perfectly blend in to make the game a wonder to see.

The controls are easy enough to learn at the default setting, but if you don’t like the way the game plays, you can fully customize using an on-screen keyboard to set the game to your needs.

There isn’t much story to this one other than killing monsters to level up, doing a side quest here and there, and killing some more to level up and wear fiercer looking armor to impress any newcomer, and where the game could’ve had a good story, the creators decided not to add one. But this doesn’t mean that replay value is lost, in retrospect, it might’ve been a good move on the creator’s part.

The character creation system is a bit limited, but stat adjusting and skill leveling is anything but limited. The only draw back on this system is that you might need to think ahead a bit if you want to be the “Ultimate Swordsman” or “Deadliest Assassin” there is.

When you first log in, you're given the choice of playing at 4 different servers, in which you can make up to 3 characters in each. Once you make your virtual guy or gal, you are dumped on your feet and are as curious as fresh born turtle, inching towards the sea 1 step at a time. The first 10 levels you are forced to solo as parting with others is available only till level 10, but it’s not a bad thing as you learn the controls of the game at these levels, which won’t take long given the simple yet enjoyable gameplay. Once you reach a certain level though, you can choose to become 4 distinctive yet familiar jobs that are Swordsman, Magician, Ranger, and Thief. After a while, you can upgrade your job again, choosing two or three more specific jobs in the one you chose.

Unlike many other MMO’s, this game is free to enjoy, no purchase is necessary to play this, although they do have a cash to game money system, it really doesn’t force you to buy it to enjoy the game. Register, download, and signing in is al it takes to play. The NX cash system though, allows you to change your characters face, body, hair, and hair color that aren’t available in the free section of the game.

If you like to try something new and don’t mind the lose of blood and gore in your game, give Maple Story a try, then by all means go right ahead and play it.
