Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga Review “Polite humor, great sound, awesome graphics, and solid game-play is Superstar Saga”
The second Mario role playing game has finally been launched and everyone enjoys this game for obvious reasons. If you have ever picked up this game or tried it once, I’m sure you would have had a great time with it. In maybe 1 hour of playing it, you will be hooked to this game. Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga is wonderful. The game is fairly simple to understand. You play the role as Mario in the beginning, and the game takes place in Peach’s Castle. One day, a mysterious evil princess from the land known as Bean Bean Kingdom arrives. She steals Peach’s voice and disappears. Oddly, you have to go find it. Professor E. Gadd hooks you up with some of the finest items. Luigi partners up with you too. How do the heroes get to Bean Bean Kingdom? Ironically, Bowser comes and this is where you learn how to fight. Following thorough instructions you learn about the Bros’ basic maneuvers in combat and Bowser is an easy foe. It is agreed that he takes you to Bean Bean Kingdom. You and your bro are off on yet another adventure to a land unheard of. This fairly challenging game is a beauty, no doubt. I love the story line this game has, because, as all Mario games, it is easy to understand and it may have you in suspense. The game itself has sharp controls. In battle, you use Luigi’s moves with the B button and Mario’s with the A button. It may sound easy, but it gets tricky as you progress. Enemies come in a variety and figuring out the timing of their moves takes some experience. Progressing, you eventually learn more things in combat such as bro combos. All in all, the fighting system is enjoyable: much greater than many of the present day Mario games. Boss battles are big and tough. Some attacks are almost impossible to avoid which adds to the difficulty. Items are various and all helpful. Some restore health (mushrooms), some cause damage to foes (fire flowers), while others restore your bro battle points (syrup). Bro battle points are required to perform combined attacks that can deal heaps among heaps of damage. These techniques are almost essential to use and the bros need to have as much battle points as possible to survive and successfully perform the designated move. The game is humorous. Its non stop laughs are what add to the fun and even the blankest of humans may laugh at the jokes occasionally. Mario isn’t particularly known for comedy; however, this game demonstrates a lot of humor and shows it cleverly. Enemies are all creative, and levels and locations are all cool to explore as you progress. The bros level up throughout the game which I like. Leveling up means more battle points, more hit points, more defense, more attack damage, and even a longer moustache which gives luck. That’s right: if you’re bro has a lot of luck you can get exclusive deals in stores which is a cool thing to try to check out. There are many places to explore within towns. Stores can be found everywhere and Mario and Luigi travel to so many different places. You’ll be anxious to find out where to go next in the game, as it is exciting. This game is a thriller. Outside of fighting components, there are even more things you need to execute. Mario and Luigi can perform higher jumps, spins, and even more to help them along the way. I enjoyed learning the outside of battle techniques and found it a challenge to locate and learn them all. One other key thing I must point out is the fact that there is more to do than simply beat the game. You can collect the hidden beans to earn certain badges which usually increase the bros’ statistics in a way or another. You also can and usually are required to train by repeatedly beating previous enemies to gain more HP and grow to stronger levels. This may sound boring, but this game has a battle system presented so well done, that you can fight the same enemy for 100 hours and still not get bored. Seriously, the game is that good. Puzzles are also thrown at you during your quest. Don’t expect the game to be a breeze to complete. Outside of tough battles, puzzles may get you stuck for a while. There also are a lot of places to travel…so you may get lost for a long time. Still, figuring out where to go is rewarding when accomplished, because it always leads to a new exciting point in the story. Getting stuck is a common cause but don’t be discouraged because there are so many great things to do rather than attempting to complete the story. I’m not going to tell spoilers in the game, but I can tell you this: the final boss is a challenge! You won’t beat her too easily. You need items, a lot of experience, and maybe even a little luck to complete the game by beating the final boss. All in all game-play is excellent and by far the best game for the Game Boy Advance in my opinion. Believe me, I have had a lot of experience with this handheld console, and no game for it so far has been as great as Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga.
The graphics in this game are fantastic and outstandingly brought out. The game is bright and the enemies all look fantastic and creative in their own neat ways. Bosses are big and mean and look great with the animated style graphics Superstar Saga possesses. Places are various so don’t expect to be in the same great looking level. There are caves, towns, and even a school that all look different and great. I give graphics a 10 simply because they are incredible.
Sound is also a glory. I liked it a lot. The music is catchy and although there isn’t much voice acting or anything like that, it is pretty well executed. Music may tend to be repetitive whilst stuck in the same place; yet, it changes when you move on. I have to give sound a 9.
As for value yeah this game is worth it. Not many people may be huge game boy fanatics, but it is great to purchase. I got it for 20 dollars which is still fairly high for a 4 year old game. Nonetheless, this game is awesome. Buy it if you own a Game Boy Advance, no matter the price. Had it still be the initial thirty dollar fee, I still would have told you to check this game out.
All in all, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga is a wonderful game with graphics great, solid game-play, and pretty good sound. I think it is worth the 20 dollars I spent and I’m sure you would too. THIS IS Mario at his best! There is also a sequel for this game that is pretty good, but it isn’t even half a match for this game! Peace and I hoped this helped you who read it. Thanks for your time.
