Filled with unique gameplay, a wacky story, and Luigi humor, Superstar Saga is one Game Boy Advance game to remember.
I find the story to be quite interesting. The game starts out with Princess Peach getting a royal visit from Lady Lima of the Beanbean Kingdom. Lady Lima announces that Queen Bean brings a gift to Princess Peach. Seems safe enough, but then, Princess Peach's voice gets stolen! It turns out that wasn't Lady Lima. It was the Great Cackletta in disguise! Cackletta laughs evilly and flies away on her flying chair with her assistant, Fawful. Mario is told by a toad to get to Peach's Castle quickly and drags Luigi with him. When Mario and Luigi arrive, they were told the whole story, and they have to go to the Beanbean Kingdom to find Cackletta and get Peach's voice back. They get there by Bowser's Koopa Cruiser, and the story picks up from there. I have to say, I like the story a lot. It's something different than most Mario games, because your main enemy is Cackletta, not Bowser. Plus, Cackletta doesn't kidnap Peach. She (I think it's a she…) steals her voice! Now that's something very different from what you would expect from a Mario game. It's something new, and I love it.
There are 2 characters that make the game so funny and witty. One of them is Luigi. There are so many parts where Luigi does silly things that I can't count them all. Anybody can find Luigi humorous. The other character is my personal favorite in the game, and that character is Fawful. Anybody that has played the game might agree with me. Fawful is in fact, one of the funniest characters of all time. His dialogue and laugh can prove that to you, especially his dialogue. Just looking at it can make you giggle, and you can't help but love him for the humor. I guarantee there is one line that he says that would be permanent stuck in your head for the rest of your life (well, maybe not THAT long). That's how funny he is. There's no doubt that anybody would love Fawful.
The battles are one of my favorite parts of the game, because it's so fun and addicting. You will enjoy the battles a lot once you get the hang of the combat. The gameplay is RPG-based, but it has a unique twist in it. Running into enemies initiates a battle with it. However, if you jump on the enemy before the battle starts, you can do extra damage to it before your actual turn. The combat system is turn-based, which I think fits perfectly for this RPG. What's cool about this game is that you can dodge and counterattack enemy attacks. Plus, there are special moves called Bros. Attacks in which Mario and Luigi do a cool attack together. Learn to do these combat tactics plus others, and you will be defeating enemies in no time.
The game's graphics look superb. Everything is crisp and clear on what it is and very detailed. For a Game Boy Advance game, they look awesome. The controls are pretty easy to get used to. Learning them can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, the game will seem a lot easier.
One of my favorite parts of the game is the music, inside and outside of battle. The music fits great with the place you are in at that moment. My favorite music from the game would be the battle music. It's so catchy and easy to remember that I usually hum to it. The boss battle's music is diffferent, and I enjoy that music, too.
Finding a flaw for this game is so tough, because I love every minute of it. It's such a fun game I don't even want to find a flaw. I tried my hardest to find some kind of flaw, but I only found one. Whenever you're underwater, it's hard to jump onto ledges, because you have to keep tapping A and B to keep from touching spikes at the bottom of the sea. It can get very tiring, too. Other than that, the game is amazing.
Pros: A unique story for a Mario game, funny characters, fun and addicting gameplay, great graphics, controls are easy to get used to
Cons: Underwater controls are kind of a pain
Anybody can play Superstar Saga and enjoy it. You will have a great and fun experience when playing the game. I recommend it to any Game Boy Advance owner.
