Welcome to Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64 that is. Mario Kart 64 improved greatly over than Super Mario Kart in every aspect. The gameplay is more balanced, the character rosters have now been in some kind of weight class from light, medium to heavy and some character has replaced, Koopa Troopa was replaced by Wario and Donkey Kong in Super Mario Kart was updated to Rareware's Donkey Kong (the DK in Donkey Kong Country series). The light character are Toad, Peach and Yoshi, a little bit faster and easier to wipe out if bump hard against the heavy characters. The medium character are Mario & Luigi, had normal speed and strengths and sometimes when bump hard again a light character, the light character wipe out but not the heavy one in which sometimes cause Mario & Luigi to wipe out. The heavy character are Donkey Kong (Rareware's version), Wario and Bowser, go a bit slower than the normal character but very strong. Also new gameplay mechanics incorporated into the game, like mini boost (which you have to drift and move the joystick left and right) and a boost that lets you boost if you drive very good-like but it speeds you up for a very short time only. The item from Super Mario Kart returns with items, some has add/modified as new like the 3 mushrooms to boost three times. The green and red shell, like the 3x the mushroom except for boosting, when used they surround the player, giving them the protection being hit and they could hit those, who are too near to the user or the user could ran into them, the single green shell, now it could be shot backwards instead of placing like the banana. The bunch of banana is very use to set behind you like a trap to stop other player from advancing, if they crash the banana closest to you, you'll lose those entire banana. The new addition is the spiky blue shell, it'll go down the middle after a few seconds when used, it'll hit any opponent, who end up in the center of the road, but be careful when using it, in some stages it'll disappeared like the ghost stage. Multiplayer are still the same but with items except for the blue spiky shell. Overall, Mario Kart 64 is a great game to play with three extra family member/friend in a 4 player spit screen.
Gameplay: 10- Well balanced in every way, turning seems much better and new items makes it fun to play with the addition of 4 player spilt screen
Graphics: 9- Slightly better than the Donkey Kong Country series
Sound: 10- Great soundtrack and sound effects and very good voice acting
Value: 9- So much fun, playing back in its days, taking short cuts and blasting your family/friends together, four times the action
