User Rating: 5.8 | Mario Kart 64 N64
Mario Kart 64 would have to be the worst Mario Kart game yet. There are a few new things that add to the experience a bit, but overall it's highly overrated.

The graphics in this game take away from the experience a lot. The game has many tracks that are well designed, but the terrible graphics don't do them justice. Particularly next to the other racing games for the N64, the graphics are mediocre. The voices in this game are often hard to listen to, and the music is repetitive and annoying. There are moments where the music matches well with the environments, but it's simply too repetitive.

One thing I think was done very well in this game, as I mentioned, was the level design. Among the best are tracks like Bowser's Castle and Choco Mountain that are detailed and creative, but it's hard to say much about the designs when the graphics are so horrific. However, all of the tracks are unique and can be fun. For me, Bowser's Castle in Mario Kart 64 is my favorite out of any of the Bowser's Castles from the other Mario Karts. The gameplay gets repetitive, especially when the karts and characters differ in no way from each other, that I can tell, and there are only eight to chose from anyway.

Overall, this game is way overrated, and the graphics and repetive gameplay take a way from a game that could ultimately have been a good game otherwise.
