Although this game is good back then, it did not age well.
HEY GUYS! This is InfamousEnforcer, here to talk about my VERY first video game I have ever played. This is also the mark of my first Video Game Review. So what better way to start out my first review then my very first game! This game is what started to make a boring kid into a huge video game nerd. I remember picking this game up when I was 4. Such great memories. Alright So let's start this!
History
Mario Kart 64 is SURPRISE, a game that has mario and a racing game using karts and is on the 64. This game is develope and publish by nintendo which is also a huge surprise. The game was release in 1997 for both America and Europe. It was later realease in 2007 for the WII virtual console. The game became a best seller.
Story
There is really no story but this is how I see it. Dudes be riding there karts... and Peach
Gameplay
The gameplay is pretty simple, yet enjoyable. You race by using karts and collect weird diamond question box thingy to grab a item and hit another player so you can be number one. Just another racing game I guess. There are 4 modes to this game. Grand Pix which is a collection of race track. Time Trial is basically riding some track either alone or some computer. Versus is racing a friend. Battle is like a minigame that you can also play with friends that involve driving. I personally just played Grand Pix or Versus. I did not care much about time trial because I could just race on Grand Pix and Battle mini games did not interest me.
Music
I like the music. It's mario. The music brings a nice, cheery and optimistic side where you go drive with some buddy in a fantasy land while you get hit by the evil blue turtle shell. Some of my favorite tracks that I reccomend you guys check out are Rainbow Road and Koopa Troopa Beach. I am sure this ost will make some people hum in joy of the good old days.
Bad
Some of the bad things about this game is that there are some unfair and cheap items in this game. The Blue Turtle shell is the cheapest item in the game. It follows you and kill you and all your hopes and dreams. Another thing is that they did not have a large variety of modes. Battle tried to fill that in but it was still basically kill your enemy while driving. They could have done so much like Mission mode where there are objectives. Maybe a map maker so you can travel in your own land. I know since this game is old that it'll likely not do this until the later installment but I believe the N64 could have done at least some mission mode.
Conclusion
I did like this game but it has become really outdated. That is not the game to blame but looking at this game again does not bring the younger huge nintendo fanboy in me anymore. It's sad but I am a strict person with my rating so I'm going to give this game a 6.5. Gameplay was fun but did not too last long. Music is ok I guess. I can only imagine myself playing about one grand pix and I am done.
