This game had to be one of the most anticipated Titles for the gamecube and it ended up just being bland "Me too" type of game, and comes off as a clone basedhalf-hearted effort They really lost the essence of what made the Mario kart games fun in the prior two games. It's really a shame because the prior two mario kart games you could play for hours on end with a good group of friends. The weapons, tracks and new features are OK but the worst feature is the idea to put two players on a kart. It's like the people who designed this game didn't PLAY the game and ask themselves, if I'm playing this what am I doing and is it fun? It seems the game's design wasn't properly executed. They could have released Mario Kart 64 with updated graphics and it would have been a better game then this one is. The problem is they tried to alter the formulat too much and in negative ways where the player isn't DOING anything interesting for too long. The pacing I think is what is ultimately missing from the game. Imagine a game with a huge open flat plain and you put two players on farthest sides opposite each other and then ask them to fight it out. That's the problem, travelling too long without any action or contact with other players ruins the pacing of the game and this is what is fundamentally wrong with Double dash, as well as the two player on a single kart gimmick which leaves both players with LESS to do. The substance of what made prior mario kart games great is totally absent from this one. Pick it u pin the bargain bin or just rent it. It's not a game worth owning, you'll rarely or never touch it again.
