Could this ever really compete with Super Mario Kart? I think the answer you are looking for is no. Back in the day if you didn't own Mario Kart then your collection was just not complete. It was the definitive racer, destroying all comers-so what has changed then? For Mario Kart, nothing has changed. The racing is still the same, the tracks are basically still the same-the only thing that has changed is the competition. In a year where simulations and street racing rule, how could Mario Kart possibly stack up? To start off it is way too easy. I completed this game in about 2 days, and even on the hardest setting I would never get beat in a race. The "2 guys to one car" gimmick is trash aswell. If they would have played it like the old Mario Karty there could have been a lot more characters in one race, meaning double the mayhem and double the fun. The computer cheats you out of races. It seems that when you are having a close battle they always get the best weapons to throw at you, while you are left with a mushroom or something. The actual racing is a bit stale aswell. Even though karts are supposed to be slow, should they be so slow that they are actually boring to drive? Battle Mode, one of the big draws for the old game, has been ruined also. Multiplayer is always good for a laugh, and it's good to see that it has withstood the test of time, but to be honest, nothing else really has.
