My favorite racing game of all time.

Ok so being my favorite racing game ever isn't saying TOO much since I haven’t owned very many, but out of all the ones I've ever played, this is definitely the best. It's also the best in the series (I haven’t played Mario Kart DS, but I have played all the others.) Why you say. Well, in this review I will explain. This game is fun, fun fun fun fun fun. Fun to play by yourself, and tons of fun to play with friends. You race around as one of your favorite Mario characters, in race karts along crazy, twisty, turny, tracks, shooting different items from the Mario universe at the other racers, and trying to avoid obstacles and pits. The gameplay is very basic, you hold to A button to go, press the control stick to move, use the X or Y button to use items, and press the Z button to switch characters. That's basically all you need to know, and there are other things that you can do to get very good at the game. There is drift which can be very useful at turns, and you can learn all the shortcuts and stuff. That's basically it, but the simple gameplay is still very fun. In multiplayer you can play with two players on a kart, one shoots and one drives. I personally don’t think that being the person the shoots would be very fun, but people that aren’t that great at the game seem to enjoy it. But in multiplayer you can also play so that you control both people by yourself. There is also a battle mode which, while maybe not as good as the races, is still pretty fun, especially the one where you throw bombs at people.
The graphics in this game aren’t amazing, but they still look great and do their job well. Just like in all Mario games, the environments are very colorful and interesting and the racetracks and karts all look different. The sound is pretty much the same. It sounds good, and there are some pretty catchy tunes, but the music isn’t amazing or anything. The character voices are great and can be pretty funny sometimes. It’s always fun to imitate Wario after he loses.
Unfortunately there are only 16 courses in the game. No it isn’t very many but you will probably still have fun playing through them over and over again. This is one of those games that I still come back to and play quite often, and you will be happy coming back to play it with friends and stuff. Mario Kart really is a great game that every Gamecube owner should have. It is my 3rd favorite Gamecube game, after Super Smash Bros. and Metroid Prime. It is extremely fun, even though it isn’t very long.
