Mario Kart Wii - A Must Have

User Rating: 9 | Mario Kart Wii (w/ Racing Wheel) WII
Its been a while now since the Mario Kart franchise was brought to Wii, so time for a review.

Mario Kart is a kart racing game like no other. The game is made up of Grand Prix's which have 3 difficulty settings classed as 50cc, 100cc and 150cc.With 32 tracks (16 tracks are back from older games and 16 new tracks are available to race on), 13 unlockable characters and 16 unlockable vehicles, this is the biggest game in the series.

The best thing about this game in comparison to the others in the series, is the ability to have a wireless steering wheel in your hands. You simply pop the wiimote in the wheel and you're ready to begin. The controls are simple and now you can flick the wheel up as you go over a jump and you'll do a stunt in the air and get a speed boost. Of course you don't have to use this, you can always use a gamecube controller or the wii classic controller if you have one of those.

Another great thing about Mario Kart Wii which is new is motorbikes. That's right motorbikes. Now you can speed down the course on two wheels, and you can pull off wheelies which will give you a hand little speed boost which could help you snatch victory from an opponent.

The list of items has gotten bigger since the last installment in the series. There are 3 new items, the POW Block, the Thunder Cloud and the Huge Mushroom and i'll explain what they do.

The POW Block will send a fissure to everyone ahead of you in the race which will stop them for a few seconds and drop their items on the track.
The Thunder Cloud can be annoying as you will have to touch someone and pass it on before it zaps you and you become tiny. It can be helpful if you are second and are tailing the leader though.
The Huge Mushroom does not need alot of explaining. Its a mushroom that makes you huge. This makes you able to flatten opponents

Playing with friends is huge fun. Its brilliant hitting them with a blue shell right before the finish line and stealing their win. You can also play battles with them and choose to be against them or have them on your team.
Now the game is on Wii, online play is a must. You have 5000 points when you start and by winning or losing games you earn or lose points. The online is lag free unlike most others and something helpful is that when you join some people and a race is going on you go into spectator mode and can watch them race.

All in all Mario Kart Wii is brilliant. A must for any Mario or racing game lover and if not just try it. I assure you it's not all just racing and it is a great family game.
