While it was a fine addition to the mario party series, it added some unneeded gimmicks that hurt itself.

ok, we've all played at least 1 or 2 mario party games in our lifetime. if you haven't, you need to rethink your opinion of being a nintendo fan. i've played mario party since the 5th game, so i know how it works. but this time, they've added wierd gimmicks to the game. the first (and maybe the worst) gimmick in the game is that you are all in a group, and the Captain decides the turn. while maybe it isn't so bad, it just feels unrealistic to the series. the second thing is that there are forts and boss battles. this is ok, but still unrealistic. And probably the worst: Stars are replaced with mini-stars. this is like having only coins in a mario party game. it just doesn't feel right.
Still, with all of my complaining, this is still a good game. the minigames are still zany, the Ai is still difficult (in most cases), and the overall game is worth playing. If you are new to the mario party series, or accept change in a series even when it shouldn't be due, this game is fine for your type. but if you've become diehard to the original formula, stick with the last 2 titles. this game won't be worth your while then.
