Mario Party kicked off with a great first game, but there are some things that could use tweaking.

Don't get me wrong, Mario Party (1) was great. The only problem with it was that Nintendo was still experimenting with the party aspect, so things can be a little awkward. Take the blocks you can buy in the shop, for example. They are pricy, and they can be extremely annoying and unhelpful in most situations when they randomly appear on the board. The boards are fun, but feel a little slow and small. With even a 20-turn game, chances are you've passed the start a great number of times. Another odd aspect of this nostalgic classic are the mini-games. They are exciting and fun, but some scoring techniques used were annoying. For example, in the mini-game Crazy Cutters, you only need to get above a certain number to win 10 coins. Another example are the team mini-games where all players either win together or lose together. It's fun to team up, but again the scoring of getting either coins together or not getting coins at all for a blunder of one person can really get in the way. If you all win, it doesn't make much of a difference because you're still all the same number of coins away from each other. If you all lose, chances are it's only because of one person in the way. Mario Party (1) is great for nostalgic reasons, but it's so awkward it's hard to play it often.
