At times Mario Power Tennis can be a un-eventful game, but for the most part Mario Power Tennis is a great game
The actuall tennis can be un-eventful at times, especially in the lower stages of the game when the characters are extremely easy, but before you know it you will be facing tougher, more challenging opponents in no time, which can be tough (i got stuck trying to beat Peach!) but with some practise in exhibition mode you should be able to beat them eventually.
There is quite a few characters in Mario Power Tennis, you can play as characters such as Yoshi, Bowser, Princess Peach, Boo, Luigi and of coarse Mario, and thats just some of the characters, also in addition there are 4 unlockable characters. Each character has a certain style that will change there performance on the court, these styles include speed, power, technique, tricky and all round. Unfortunately you will have to make certain sacrifices depending on what style you chose, example if you chose a character like Diddy Kong who has a speed style, he opbviously won't be that powerful. Each character also have there own power shots, both offensive and defensive. The offensive power shots can wither just add a whole lot of power onto there shot, or a jarring curve. The defensive shot will hit the ball no matter where you are on the field, which is handy in the tournaments such as the star cup. Each character gets a mini cut-scene for each of their power shots, my favorite power shot would have to be Diddy Kong's defensive shot where he gets a jet pack (or a jet barrely) and flies away to hit the ball, however some of these attacks are pointless and down right stupid, such as when Waluigi cleans out his ears and swims through a puddle that instantly appears. The story mode is basically just winning all the tournaments with all the players, which will take you a good 20-30 hours or so. There are 2 main types of tournaments, normal and gimmick. The normal tournament is basically playing on a standard tennis field, the gimmick tournaments are playing on gimmick courts. Gimmick courts are essentially wild cards in matches. At times some of these gimmick courts can annoy you, like on one of them the man-eating plants spit gooey liquids on the field and if your character steps on it, it will make them run a lot slower. Some other gimmick courts include The luigi's Mansion stage, Bowser's lair and Donkey Kong's gimmick court.
The multiplayer in Mario Power Tennis is a whole lot of fun. Even if you only have one friend over and your playing a 2 player match its still a whole lot of fun, with that said its a incredible experience if you play 4 player matches. Also some of the games mini-games are multiplayer which is also greatr fun.
Mario Power Tennis features some of the best graphics ever seen in a Mario game of any sort. The character models are really clear and colorful and the environments look excellent. The power shots also add to the overall graphical standpoint of the game. The sound is pretty good as well, the actual sounds of the court and you smashing the ball are sharp, but the soundtrack isn't all that great.
When it comes right down to it Mario Power Tennis is a great game in almost every aspect, and its also better that its predecessor in every aspect, so if you liked the first one and you haven't already gotten this one, just go get it right now because you will love it, also if your a fan of either Mario or Tennis than you should take deep consideration in buying this game. At times Mario Power Tennis can be a un-eventful game, but for the most part Mario Power Tennis is a great game in every aspect.
