Its not much of a sports mix man.
There really isnt much of a story really, then again does mario really need one? Plus it is a sports game.
Graphics: 8.0
Visually it looks pretty good there's a solid amount of variety between the levels you play in and the character animations are nice.
Game play: 7.5
Unfortunately, the Ai in this game is massively stupid. I swear, I left the room while playing tournament mode on volleyball when it was 19-0 and came back and it was still 19-0... Wow. Anyway, there are 4 types of games, dodge ball, volleyball, basketball, and hockey. The problem is there just isn't that much variety because the controls are used almost exactly alike. But that doesn't mean the game suck, they still control well and the gameplay is balanced....well except for the ai. As for the mini games, there pretty fun as well and can be interesting to play with a friend, as for the online I had no problems playing against an opponent and the frame rate is very smooth.
Sound: 7.0
There are some very annoying voice overs at times, mostly consisting of the mii's...ugh.... As for the music, its surprisingly a mixed bag. At times the music is great and truely stands out as a great song. As for others, its kind of forgettable.
Lasting Appeal: 6.5
Tornament Mode won't take you long to collect the trophies, another gripe I have with the game is that if you unlock something on one game, for example I unlock a ff character on dodgeball, then you have to unlock the same character on the other 3 sports. What the heck Square Enix. Online is great though and will have you hooked for a bit.
Overall: 7/10 Good
Mario Sports Mix is a good game overall, but for $40 bucks, its just not that kind of bang for your buck. If your a sports fan or a mario fanatic maybe you should check this out. As for others, Rent or Wait until the price drops. Its just not worth the $40. Or, go get Mario Strikers Charged.
