If you don’t experience it at least once, you will never truly find a good tennis game quite as rewarding.
Mario Tennis is one of the tennis games to be above the average tennis games for any console so far. The unique graphics and game play make this game a must have for Virtual Boy owners.
The 3D in the game is very well done, it makes use of depth perception to accurately gauge where the ball will go, as well as make use of the depth for scenery and bugs and blimps that fly by the in background. The graphics are nice; some of the best on the system and the courts feel a bit incomplete with the black surrounding the court area.
Mario Tennis features 2 distinct musical tracks per match type, so 4 tracks with two each divided between singles and doubles. The music is of good quality and 1 of the tracks just grabs your attention with it’s quality and attention to small details, I was impressed with that one.
The AI in Mario Tennis is actually really good for a Virtual Boy game, unless you want to do doubles… the AI is so helpless it is very frustrating! However, the Singles area of the game is flawless in terms of AI (although some may find the ‘Hard’ to be a tad easy).
If you don’t experience it at least once, you will never truly find a good tennis game quite as rewarding.
