A flawed game, but enjoyable to Marvel fans.
In general, the game is basically so-so. The environments are well rendered and highly detailed. They are also highly interactive, with most tons of destructible objects. However, they are very repetitive. For example, you will fight on the same rooftops in several different missions and with several different characters.
The character details are beautiful. I really enjoyed the artistic style and thought it worked to present a darker, less cartoony version of the marvel characters.
The gameplay itself is frustrating at times. There are no power-ups available to boost your health, so dying is something you will do frequently. Hit detection is off at times as well and aiming can at times be a joke. I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to hit an enemy with, for example, Elecktra’s sais, only to have her fling them to the side or even the opposite way.
The storyline is intriguing and the variety of missions keeps this keep from being just the usual beat ‘em up. However, unless you are a fan of the franchise and the characters, it can be hard to get over the game’s flaws.
