EA's recent fetish to limit control and gameplay makes these MARVEL heroes a little more stiff and a lot less super...
My big concern is EA's inflexibility in the controller department, which tremendously hampers gameplay. Normally, you'd get a few "pre-set" controller options, then a "custom" option. It must have cost too much to pay the programmers to add this in, because all you get when you select "Controller" in the "Options" menu is exactly how EA wants you to play MARVEL Nemesis... which is by NO means the best control layout. But if the controls don't hinder you enough, the cheap computer A.I. will make sure the rest of the fun is drained out of you. There are several stages in the Story mode that will frustrate even die-hard MARVEL fans... for instance, the Wolverine vs. "Femme Fatale" stage ("Femme Fatale" being The Wink, although you never know that until you enter the versus mode), in which Wolvie's claws hardly make a dent in her life meter, but she gets in a few cheap "combo throws", and DANGER begins flashing above your life meter. Luckily, Wolerine can claw-climb up to the terminal platform to get a breather and regenerate his strength. Other characters aren't so lucky. Elektra and DareDevil are absolutely the weakest characters... next to Spider-Man. (That's a whole other disappointment.) When you fight Johnny Ohm as DareDevil... get ready to repeat this fight a rediculous number of times. As soon as the match begins, he zaps you with lightning 3-4 times, and the DANGER sign is already flashing for ol' Double-D. You have my permission to bust out the bubbly when you beat him. And not only are the "boss" characters difficult, but some of the generic "aliens" can be a nuisance. These "Imperfects" make the MARVEL crew look like senior citizens attempting to beat up the evil robots from "I, Robot".
This game is definitely a step in a direction... can't say the right direction, but its not a total disaster. Definitely worth a rental... then take it back when your blood pressure gets too high.
